It is a Student
Christian English Club where we teach students how to speak English.
We are the students
of Kyiv universities (mainly KPI and KNU. Shevchenko), employees of research
institutes, students and even university professors. We are all different. What
unites us all? Faith in God. Through projects like this, the preaching of the
Gospel and other different activities in the Church, we want to teach young
people the joy of fellowship over a cup of tea, how to see the world with mutual
respect and, last but not least, English, especially in its colloquial form with
its many idiomatic expressions.
Native
speakers, who help bring spoken, everyday English to the club, do so on a
voluntary basis, ie are volunteers. More information about them, as well as the
people who are responsible for separate areas of the club (complimentary tea
and food, visiting sessions, transport) can be read elsewhere.
Among the various
options and techniques for the club, we chose this system because, in our
opinion, it fits our principle best: free, relaxed atmosphere where everyone
can speak freely no matter what level of English without any fear of a negative
evaluation criteria.
Why is our club is
called the "4T’s"? Our motto is composed of four English words, each
of which begin with "T": "Take Time To Talk" or don’t rush
to speak English. English, like any other foreign language, is impossible to
master if you do not pay enough attention to the conversational part. We like
to say "The only way to learn English is to speak English". Even if you
think it will take forever for you to learn English, don’t consider yourself
hopeless. We believe that everything can be learned through time and practice.
You’d be surprised at how easy it is to speak English. The logo of our club, the
4T’s, also sounds like "four tea". Those four cups have became the
emblems of our club. The semiofficial name of this club is "English Club
for a cup of tea."
As of today we have
the opportunity to offer English Club three times a week on Wednesday (Polytechnical
Institute), Thursday (Kyiv-MogilyanskayaAcademy) and Saturday (University of Shevchenko).
